Basic Additon – Decomposing The Number 10

Decomposing numbers can be explained to children in the form of number links or pairs of numbers that can be added together to create a given number.

Invite children to add or break numbers through games to spark their desire to further explore the world of numbers and arithmetic operations. We played with strips of paper in order to learn to decompose the number 10. One strip represents the number 10 and this can be cut in several ways. These cuts represent parts that, by addition, their result is the number 10.
